If you thought this post had a click-bait title, and there’s no way Hillary Clinton would actually tell a blatantly racist “colored people” joke in public, you thought wrong. She did. Bill (NYC Mayor de Blasio) set it up and Hillary knocked it down. It didn’t help the optics that actor Leslie Odom Jr (of the Broadway hit ‘Hamilton’) was standing there in on the racist “joke,” while dressed like a colonial house slave. (Seriously. Bruh.)
The “joke” was performed at the annual Inner Circle Dinner, an exclusive gathering for New York’s upper political echelon. Hillary set up the “joke” by playfully ribbing de Blasio for taking so long to endorse her. To which de Blasio–who’s married to a very intelligent, culturally astute Black woman with kids–replies “Sorry Hillary, I was running on C.P. time.” Leslie interjects “I don’t like jokes like that, Bill.” Hillary then turns to Leslie and dryly delivers the zinger: “Cautious politician time.”
Get it? See… she didn’t actually tell the racist “colored people time” joke that stereotypes tardiness as a trait of shiftless, lazy Black people. No, she was actually telling a whole other not racist joke about “cautious politicians” taking their “time” to ponder decisions. After all, how could her joke be racist if a Black actor [dressed like a lawn jockey] and a White man who’s married to a Black woman with two kids are both in on the joke, right? Wrong. Wrong as f*ck.
Look, I don’t know if the series of racist‘ish gaffes by the Clintons (mostly Bill) have made since racking up the Black vote in the South are calculated codespeak (dog whistle politics designed to appeal to a base of NOT Black voters) or if they’re both just that stupid, but I do know one thing for sure: of all the things you can rightly call the Clintons, stupid is not one of them. #dontBSyourself
